Starting Off
Most of my grid outlines were very layered, so it may be difficult to understand by just looking at them. Also, I wanted to create a new type of experience by cutting the front cover. I think this will be interesting so that I can manipulate what you see through the cutouts on both the front and back of it.
First Iteration
For my first iteration, I tried just playing around and “puking out” all the ideas that I had. I tried first focusing on the page numbers and then working my layout/design around them, but that was not a good idea.
Second Iteration
Afterwards, I wanted to change my concept and focus on the other style that Jessica Walsh has when she works for other clients. Compared to her bold and confident look, she also has a calm and pastel vibe for some of her other works.
I used those photos above to create fun layouts. I wanted to really use the full image and try manipulating the whole spread.
Feedback
I got a lot of mixed feedback which made me go crazy. I really felt like I was stuck and unsure what to do. I talked to so many people yet I did not feel like I knew what direction to go. Thankfully, I talked to Mason and he gave me good advice. He helped me come to the conclusion that my digital experience should be mainly about her softer concepts while my poster is on the other side with her bold and confident vibes. The booklet should be a “happy middle” of both experiences. Right now, I was only putting her pastel work, but I should be slowly easing in.
