Through the AIGA Census data, we were able to cluster and find interesting correlations with current design challenges and the assumptions they face. In order to get to our final concept, there were various iterations of themes we went through, but because of the lack of resources, we decided to stick with our final one.

Getting Started

Here are the previous concepts that we had thought about before finalizing:

• Correlation between job challenges, what is great to years of experience? Still finding how to combine the tables. Isn’t drastic difference based on challenges — need to look at what is great.
• Looking at how tools reflect a designer’s identity through their experience in regards to time, work, and other satisfaction factors. We are what our tools make us — design is disillusioned (everyone is using the same process — less individualism) — “what is being copied? contribute to the problem/fighting against the problem” — everyone has the smae design tools — how do our tools and processes define us as a designer now/in the long run. Ther are times were some companies force employees to use a specific tool or process. What if there are actually new ways to approach tools and process. Some reasons people don’t expand: comfort zone, company structure, resources, accessiblility. This would be empowering to graduating students, which helps them be ready to work, or even teach people at the company new tools that the industry is moving towards.
• How does stability occur in designers? Stability is an extremely broad term that has varying meanings based on the person. Across wages, everyone “Feels Stable”. How do people feel about increasing their skillsets? People are learning everyday, people in design enjoy moving forward because they are genuinely interested. What opportunitie do people have to advance their career? People with 20+ years have less opportunities to grow. People with less experience feel like they have more opportunitiy to grow. Opportunities To Learn.
